April 28, 2026

Legal Aid of Southeastern PA (LASP) was awarded a $35,000 Technology Initiative Grant from the Legal Services Corportation. The grant enables LASP to assess its Helpline intake process. The grant was announced in December 2025.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - LASP has been awarded a $35,000 grant from the Legal Services Corporation to assess modernization of its client intake system. The grant is one of 32 Technology Initiative Grants (TIG) totaling $4.2 million to organizations in 22 states. LSC announced the grants on Dec. 18, 2025.

This LSC grant will support LASP's efforts to assess its Helpline intake process, with a goal to redesign its client intake system to make legal assistance more equitable, efficient and accessible. The project addresses feedback from the 2024 Needs Assessment.

LSC funding enables LASP to review current intake processes to find ways to reduce wait times, prevent dropped calls and improve language access. LASP also will consider the viability of new technology tools, including a unified client portal and artificial intelligence (AI) features, to streamline pre-screening and make communication easier. By analyzing workflows, reviewing data and engaging staff and clients, LASP aims to create a more user-friendly and responsive system. The assessment aims to ensure that every client inquiry receives prompt attention and support.

Phillip Hammond, Director of Operations, noted, "The project is a discovery process, and we hope to learn about new systems we can put in place to modernize our intake system. We anticipate being able to implement the recommendations we receive, but that will of course require additional funding and would be the next step after this assessment is complete."
