Job description (posted Oct. 14, 2026)
Legal Aid of Southeastern PA (LASP) seeks law student externs for its Bankruptcy and Consumer Law practice
Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania (LASP) seeks students interested in gaining experience in consumer bankruptcy practice. The primary responsibility will be to support LASP’s Consumer Debt Relief Program, which helps match eligible bankruptcy clients with volunteer attorneys. Students will be involved with helping clients gather the necessary information to prepare bankruptcy filings. Externs will also gain exposure to LASP’s general bankruptcy and consumer law practice by assisting with cases that LASP does not refer to volunteers.
LASP is the civil legal aid organization serving the suburban counties of Philadelphia. Our mission is to provide quality legal representation to low-income and vulnerable people in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties, to empower them to solve problems without legal representation through legal education and increased access to the courts, and to change community practices and systems that cause or aggravate poverty.
Student externs working with the LASP’s bankruptcy and consumer lawyers will gain substantial experience helping low-income clients facing economic hardship. LASP assists clients who are experiencing financial distress by providing legal advice, pro se support and direct representation in a variety of contexts including bankruptcy, debt collection and foreclosure defense. Externs will also participate in community outreach events, which seek to educate the low-income clients about their legal rights and help to protect consumers.
This opportunity is designed to:
Provide practical exposure to real-world legal proceedings.
