Second Chance Resource Fair and Expungement Clinic in Norristown

  • George Washington Carver Community Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

NORRISTOWN - Lori Schreiber, Montgomery County Clerk of Courts, invites justice-involved citizens to the Second Chance Resource Fair and Expungement Clinic on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The Clerk of Courts office will be joined by government and community-based service providers from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the George Washington Carver Community Center, 249 Jacoby St, Norristown, PA 19401.

LASP will join the Clerk of Courts and the Montgomery County Office of Public Defenders for an Expungement Clinic.

The Clerk of Courts started this event during Second Chance Month in 2023 so that the reentry community and their families would have access to vital services and organizations in Montgomery County. Each April, the U.S. Dept. of Justice celebrates Second Chance Month, recognizing the importance of helping individuals, communities, and agencies across the country appreciate their role in supporting the safe and successful reentry of millions of people returning from incarceration each year.

“There can be many steps for returning citizens to help them successfully reach their goals within their home communities,” Schreiber said. “These steps need to be both holistic, but also unique to fit each individual’s needs. At our Re-entry Resource Fair, we will offer a wide variety of vendors, community organizations and government offices to help individuals build skills and obtain needed services. In addition, our hope is to improve community attitudes and reduce stigma. This, in turn, can further assist people as they move up the rungs of their own ladder of success.”

Please feel free to share this information with family, friends and your community! For questions, contact Mandy-Lee Garofalo in the Clerk of Courts Office at mandy-lee.garofalo@montgomerycountypa.gov. Event webpage: https://bit.ly/MontcoPA-4-30-2024

Montgomery County Virtual Name Change Clinic

UPDATE: AS OF APRIL 9, REGISTRATION IS FULL FOR THIS EVENT. Thank you for your interest.

NORRISTOWN – Registration is open for a Montgomery County Virtual Name Change Clinic Wednesday, April 24, 2024. The clinic is open to Montgomery County residents ages 18 and older, including those in the transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming communities. The clinic is via Zoom from 4-6 p.m.

Register by Wednesday, April 10: https://bit.ly/NameChange-4-24-2024

Each participant will be assigned a 30-minute appointment slot with a volunteer attorney who will assist with the name change petition process. This can include answering questions, offering advice, and helping prepare paperwork. An attorney might also represent their assigned client (or clients) on their petition hearing date.

This consultation is free for all participants. However, clinic participants will be responsible for paying for associated costs for the name change petition, such as fingerprinting services and court fees.

The Montgomery Bar Association (MBA) and Montgomery County Prothonotary's Office are co-organizing and running the clinic.

The name change process can be intimidating, particularly if a person has little to no experience with civil court. The Virtual Pro Bono Name Change Clinic provides guidance for the petition paperwork and support for the individual with pro bono representation on the day of the hearing.

“My office continues to assist those that have historically been marginalized,” said Prothonotary Noah Marlier. “Helping those in our community who need help the most is integral to our mission. We are so happy and proud to host our third Name Change Clinic"

“The Montgomery Bar Association is delighted to again host our annual name change clinic with the Montgomery County Prothonotary’s Office," MBA Executive Director Denise Vicario said. "It is a privilege to serve Montgomery County, and the Name Change Clinic provides a wonderful service to our community. Name change hearing day has become one of the highlights of our calendar!”
