(Oct. 10, 2022)

Are you in need of food assistance? You may be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps, even if you were not eligible before. On Oct. 1, 2022, the income guidelines for all applicants changed to 200% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. With this change, more than 420,000 additional Pennsylvanians in more than 174,000 households will now be eligible for SNAP.

Before Oct. 1, eligibility in PA was 160% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines for households that do not have elderly or disabled members.

SNAP is a federal program, and SNAP benefits are funded through the federal budget, but Pennsylvania’s Dept. of Human Services sets eligibility for PA and issues the benefits.
