NORRISTOWN - John E. Bowen is Legal Aid of Southeastern PA’s new Controller, beginning Jan. 22, 2024. He is based in the Administrative Office in Norristown and serves all four counties. John brings a 40-year career as a financial professional to LASP, with experience in both corporate and nonprofit roles.

From 1988-2018, he served as Financial Advisor at Cantor Fitzgerald, Legg Mason Wood Walker, and Wachovia Securities in Atlanta. As an Independent Director on the Maryland Financial Bank’s Board of Directors from 2005-2018, he led the Audit Committee. He reviewed and approved commercial and real estate loans and managed a team of 17 professionals overseeing various financial functions. John's other previous employment included Wachovia Bank in Atlanta, where he was Investment & Trust Controller; Equitable Bank in Baltimore, where he served as Accounting Manager; and Ernst & Young in Baltimore, where he was Audit Manager. His career highlights include increasing sales across financial products by 700%.

John earned a Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) and MBA in 2021 from Kennesaw State University in Georgia, where he was nominated as Student of the Year. He is a CPA and earned B.S. in accounting from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in 1974. Since 2012, he has served on the BGSU’s College of Business Finance & Insurance Advisory Board, where he collaborates with finance executives to provide guidance on curriculum planning, mentoring students and scholarship.

In 2022, John moved to the Phoenixville area and established Bowen Farm, a 48-acre farm and vineyard in West Vincent Township, implementing the use of natural products and sustainable agricultural practices that benefit the environment and also the health and productivity of the land.
